Pang said the object was silent, appeared only a few storeys above neighbouring rooftops and moved slowly enough for the pair to watch its path. These details broadly match Lennon’s own descriptions. He spoke of a dark or grey central body, ordinary-looking white lights blinking around the bottom, one red light on top, no audible engine and movement down the river. Why two witnesses change the assessment
A second witness improves a sighting report most clearly by reducing certain simple possibilities. Yet “two witnesses” does not automatically mean “two independent observations”. Lennon spotted the object first and summoned Pang, immediately directing her attention towards something he considered extraordinary. They then watched from the same terrace, shared essentially the same viewing angle and discussed what they believed they were seeing. Their reports are therefore mutually supporting, but not independent in the strongest investigative sense.
That distinction matters because genuinely independent witnesses can reduce the chance that one person’s expectation shaped the other’s account. Research on co-witness memory shows that people who discuss an event may influence one another’s recollections, sometimes making their later reports more similar. Pang’s relationship with Lennon does not invalidate her evidence. It simply affects how corroboration should be weighted. The missing independent record
Pang and Lennon reportedly attempted to photograph the object, but the resulting images were said to be overexposed or otherwise unusable. Those claims are potentially important, but their evidential status is weaker than Pang’s direct account. No clear photograph is publicly available for examination, and widely circulated versions of the story do not provide a complete surviving police log, newspaper call record or identified group of additional witnesses whose statements can be compared independently.
It is therefore safer to distinguish between two levels of corroboration:
- Directly attributable corroboration: Pang herself said she stood beside Lennon and saw the illuminated object.
- Reported but poorly documented corroboration: the couple said officials or journalists told them that other calls had been received.
The first is central to the historical record. The second remains part of the narrative but cannot presently be tested with the same confidence. Without names, original reports, times and viewing locations, the alleged additional sightings cannot establish whether several people observed the same object, different objects or unrelated lights.
The absence of a preserved case file also prevents meaningful reconstruction. Investigators would need the exact apartment position, compass bearing, angular elevation, duration, weather, cloud cover, aircraft movements and the object’s apparent path. Even several sincere witnesses cannot reliably determine physical size, distance or speed when those quantities were estimated visually rather than measured.
What Pang corroborates — and what she does not
Pang’s evidence supports three modest conclusions.
First, Lennon was not the only person who reported seeing the object. Second, the pair agreed on several conspicuous features rather than merely sharing a vague impression of a light. Her account does not establish the object’s material structure, exact altitude, true dimensions or propulsion. Apparent silence does not prove that an object produced no sound: distance, wind, city noise and the direction of an engine can affect audibility. Likewise, describing an object as close enough to hit is an expression of perceived proximity, not a measured range.
Nor can two witnesses, observing from one position, triangulate distance. Triangulation requires observations from separated locations with known geometry. Without distance, estimates such as “Lear jet-sized” remain uncertain because a small nearby object and a much larger distant object can occupy a similar angle in the sky.
Modern scientific approaches to unidentified anomalous phenomena emphasise precisely these missing quantities. Why May Pang remains essential
Without Pang, Lennon’s UFO story would rest largely on his own statements, an album inscription and later cultural references. With her, it becomes a sustained two-person account of a shared observation. That is a meaningful improvement in historical credibility.
Her role is especially valuable because it helps separate two questions that celebrity UFO stories often blur. The first is whether the celebrity sincerely experienced something unusual. The second is whether that experience proves an extraordinary explanation. Pang substantially strengthens the case for the first proposition. She adds very little by herself to the second.
The most balanced assessment is therefore neither that Pang “proved Lennon saw a spacecraft” nor that her evidence is irrelevant because she was his partner. She is a genuine second witness whose matching recollection makes outright invention or a wholly private misperception less plausible. At the same time, the shared viewpoint, immediate communication between the witnesses and lack of measurements leave the object unidentified in the literal sense: observed and remembered, but not scientifically determined.
